Mendocino Wine Affair
June 23, 2006
Friday eve and Saturday
Cost: See Details
Location: Mendocino County
The 2006 Mendocino Wine Affair will highlight the glories of the Mendocino Wine Country. The two-day even kicks off Friday, June 23 with the “Mendocino Western Wine Round-Up”. The historic Parducci Wine Estate will be transformed into the “OK Corral” for the night. The event will include a fabulous BBQ and buffet playing off the “Spaghetti Western” theme and the great country-western sounds of the Fred McCarty Band and a few surprises will be thrown in. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on full case lots in a silent auction.
Saturday’s main event starts at 10:00 am. The day’s festivities start off with the KGO Radio, live broadcast, of the Gene Burns” Dinning Around” program. Enjoy Gene as he interviews some of Mendocino County’s most colorful personalities. Starting at 3:00 pm “Hog Island” oysters and sparkling wines will greet guests as they arrive at the spectacular organic gardens of Fetzer’s Valley Oaks Ranch in Hopland. More than 50 Mendocino wineries will pour their finest wines for guests as they leisurely walk the gardens enjoying three themed areas; Asian, Latin and Mediterranean. Each area will have passed hors d’oeuvres reflecting the specific theme of the area. The event will also showcase the release of the 2003 vintage “Coro Mendocino” wines. These unique wines are the first of their kind in the United States and are produced under strict guidelines and must pass a blind tasting by a panel of judges. Visit the Mendocino Growers’ booth and sample one-of-a-kind, home-made wines, produced by the growers themselves. An elegant sit-down dinner and auction will commence at 7 pm around the old Haas House where auctioneer extraordinaire Fritz Hatton will wield his gavel on 45 exciting live auction lots. A silent auction will also entice guests with special wine collections and get-away trips and wine related art. Music and entertainment will punctuate the afternoon and the evening concludes with dancing under the stars to the up-beat sounds of the “Sofa Kings”. The two-day event is a benefit for the Mendocino Winegrowers Foundation in support of the Ukiah Valley Medical Center, Project Sanctuary, Mendocino Community Health Clinics and the Mendocino County Search & Rescue Unit. This year’s honorary chairs are Carol Crosby and Kathy Pomilia of Fetzer Vineyards. Both Kathy and Carol feel strongly that we need to recognize the quality and diversity that has made our wine industry so unique and enduring.
